overnight over 8s help please

do you have to registered for over night care if the child is age 8+ and if your not can the parent still use your registration number to claim help for this?
on e of my parents is thinking of doing a midwifery course which involves working shifts at a hospital and as she is single i was thinking of helping out but am unsure of exactly how much extra work would be involved?
and also what sort of price do people charge for this?
