Morning Helen think the way it works is he sends you a false cheque, but for more than the fees and asks you to send a cheque back with the remander of the money!! cheeky bu**ers!!

I had the same email 3 weeks ago, and my friend did aswell, just ignore it.

Really cheeky but do people really fall for it as i wouldn't send any money back unless the cheque he sent cleared.

Yes and even then you have to be careful as there was something about banks showing the money as added to your account when the cheque is deposited but not cleared so people were still getting caught out as they thought the cheque was OK only to find later they had parted with their cash and the bank had reclaimed the money from their account

Thats right. Most people assume they can spend the cheque when it appears added to their available balance or after the bank tells you the cheque is cleared. But the bank can claw back the funds LONG after you thought it had cleared. The banks usually discover if its fraud by the 4th/5th day but can legally take it back from you long after this date. there does not seem to be a maximum time limit at all!

One of my childminder buddies received a very simlar e-mail. She reported it to the police but not sure whatever happened, if anything. Craziness!
Why is "phonics" not spelled the way it sounds?
