    Default DHC Unit 3

    Hi All,

I am doing dhc unit 3 assignment 1 and have been asked to do 1000 words on why it is important to seek support when you need it (just like I am now) so far I have chosen my two sources of professional help, being NCMA and other registered childminders. I am now explaining "why it is important to seek the support" and "evaluating the factors which make professional relationships effective" I have only done approx 100 words on the whole assignment so far, does anyone know of any appropriate websites or books that will help me?

I really want to do well on this course and I am doing it at home via the nec so haven't got a group to bounce ideas of off.

    Would appreciate any idea's.

Any one who wishes to contact me direct can send me a pm

    Thanks

    Anne

Hello Anne and welcome to the forum... Just to let you know, I have taken out your personal email - Google spiders and things!

For your essay, I would consider the things you can learn from other childminders and maybe give an example of how someone else's ideas have changed your way of thinking... maybe if you spend some time with another childminder, you could watch how each other support children's learning through different ways of tackling activities and talk about that.

I am doing something similar for E124 at the moment and I am carrying out an activity and evaluating how it went - without someone else to bounce ideas off, it is very hard!

I am sure you will get lots of other ideas

You got given a word count for it??? We weren't given anything like that!

"why it is important to seek the support"

we seek support because it helps us personally and professionally. In a job that is quite isolated for most of the time, we need to ensure that we keep in touch with others for reasons such as, new ideas, sharing information, relaxation, socialising (ourselves and children), new experiences, any problems that may arise (taking into account confidentiality) etc..., reassurance that we are handling "things" (ie problems, business), guidance, legal guidance (problems with contracts, non payments etc)

Think of the reasons you would seek support.

evaluating the factors which make professional relationships effective"

such as explaining things clearly, responding appropriately (no jargon), active listening, reflection, mutal respect of roles/involvement/jobs, trust, reflection of own practice, additions/adjustments to own practice due to reflection, assesment of...

explain why these would make (any) relationship effective

    Hope some of that helps
    xx

Im doing the DHC at the moment and book I use all the time is
Diploma in Home-based Childcare for childminders and nannies
    by sheila Riddall-Leech.

The book is written to go side by side with the course and I find it a great help.Good luck with the course, I have just finished Unit 3 but havent got my results back yet.

    Hi Everyone,

Thanks for the advice, I have got the book by shelia Riddall-Leech, and I have now managed to do 440 words so I am now going to put your words of wisdom into practice. It's a great help.

    Thanks again.

    Hi All,

It seems all lot of you didn't have to do a word count for your DHC, I am doing the home based course through the NEC and at the bottom of assignment one it states "we suggest you write about 1000 words for the assignment" so I guess you don't have to (I ended up doing about 740). For assignment two they suggest 700 words these are not the actual CACHE assignments, I have to do two assignmens for the NEC first, and my tutor will mark these then my CACHE one, so maybe that's why you ladies haven't had to do a word count. Maybe these are just warm up's for the real CACHE assignment because I have no one else to bounce ideas of, and these two assignments will give me more of an idea what CACHE expect.

Sorry about that I should have explained myself a bit better,

We wernt given a word count either thank goodness. We were given a book Diploma in Homebased Childcare, should be £17.99 but thankfully we were given it free but its a really good book and gives hints and tips for the assignments.

You got the book free Lucky you!

I got mine from Amazon for 13.99 and to be honest I hardly used it. It did come in handy for some bits and bobs and I use it for reference for QF and NVQ.
