    Default NEW MINDEE

Hi, I need some advice please. I have a parent inquiring about me dropping and picking up her daughter from school only on a Tuesday 1 1/2hr in morning and 1 1/2 hrs after school, I have only just started minding and dont know if this a good idea just for one day and no holidays as the parent is a teacher. What would you do and how much would you charge if agreed? Thanks in advance.

Personally I wouldn't do it. It wouldn't be financially viable for me. We're all different though and I'm sure you'll receive some good advice from other forum members.

You would need to implement minimum hours and half in the holidays. I would want 20 pounds to do it.

I would also advise doing minimum hours, i intend charging a minimum of 4 hours daily.

You need to start somewhere, why not? You can always give notice if something more viable comes along.

I think its a good idea as big things grow from little things iykwim, it will get you known around school and also the mother (especially being a teacher) will be able to recommend you to others and may need you to look after the child on other occassions.

As for fees I would charge just the normal hourly rate, I have found that by not being greedy (I would charge £9 - but may differ due to your area) I have managed to fill my spaces very easily and that I don't have to advertise as all my business has come through word of mouth and from people seeing me at school, toddlers and playgroup.

Good luck and I am sure that in a years time you will be asking us how to apply for a variation as you are nice and full.

Maybe you could say that you are currently looking for a full time mindee but would be more than happy to take on a temporary contract in the mean time?

Hope it works out for you.

I'd do it. You can still take on a full timer can't you as a school age child wont take up a EYFS age space.

Although you will have to comply with EYFS for him/her they will be in your 5-8 numbers

3 under 8 doesn't sound like many - is your house very small? I am registered for 6 under 8 like most people i know. I know that initially some people have been registered for less but normally been a reason e.g. space.

I have four children but none of them live at home. I have a spacious 4 bed house with large garden. I dont know why she only said 3 perhaps I should ask for more, or perhaps because only started minding in Jan. Confused now.

If you have filled your 3 spaces then I would call and ask why you only have 3 spaces and if you could have more.

Thanks Fizzysfriends. I am full at the moment but its worth asking for the future. What would be a decent amount to ask for do you think? Dont want to look greedy.
