Default To retain or not to retain...that is the question!

    Hi ladies

I was just wondering if any of you could explain (in layman's terms) what a retainer is and how it works? I assume it's different from a deposit? I've had an enquiry from a lady for her 2yr old, but it's on an ad hoc basis, as and when. I'm just trying to decide whether to do this or write it off.

    Thank you.

    Helen xx

A retainer is used to keep open a place for someone. You cannot offer the place to anyone else whilst you are being paid the retainer. a deposit is a payment in advance for a place in the future.

Wow - that was quick! thanks Penny
How much do you usually charge for a retainer - is it your usual daily/hourly/weekly rate or is there a completely different charge for this?
(sorry to ask so many Qs!)

I normally charge half my usual rate for a retainer and take a deposit of minimum two weeks at normal rate.
