    Default Currant Buns

    Recipe for Currant Buns

We enjoyed making these in the summer holidays, we had big bowls of ingredients and everyone made their own

    Makes 1 Large Bun
    ~ Sift 2 tablespoons Self-Raising Flour into a bowl
~ Add 2 Teaspoons Caster Sugar and a pinch of salt and mix together
~ Add 2 teaspoons of butter or Margerine, and rub fat in until the mixture looks like fine breadcrumbs
~ Mix with 5 Teaspoons of milk to make a soft dough
~Turn out on to a floured board and add a handful of currents and knead into the dough
~ Roll into a bun shape and put onto a baking sheet
~ Put into a pre-heated oven -230deg c or Gas Mark 8 - For 15mins or until the top is golden brown and the bottom sounds hollow
~Leave on a wire rack until cooled
~ Enjoy with a glass of milk

You could vary the flavour by adding dark chocolate or carob chips, chopped apricots, or chopped glace cherries and desiccated coconut instaed of currants

If you make more buns you can also sing ~

Five Current Buns in a bakers shop,
Big and Round with a cherry on the top,
Along came (child's name) with a penny one day,
Bought a current bun and took it away.

Four current buns........ etc until they've all gone

Thought i'd share it with you as the kids i had really enjoyed themselves and not one of the buns looked the same!!
