our old hippo sand pit got turned in to a salad bed this weekend, My son drilled the holes for drainige in that and the pots and we filled it with soil, each child will have a pot to look after and the hippo will have lettuce growing in it for their sandwichs, I have also orded an arch of ebay to grow some cucumbers and beans up too. cant wait to see their faces tomoro
I wish I had a garden. Well done it looks great. You're fees are going to have fun caring for their plants. I do tomatoes in a hanging bag on my balcony.
What a fab idea! We have a nightmare with slugs, so planting anything often ends in disaster. This would be brilliant because I could vaseline or copper wire the hippo which does slow/stop the slugs.
Just make sure you don't plant seeds too soon - we get carried away each year with planting out our runner beans and each year either cold winds or late frost in May kills them off. Looks a fab idea - my sandpit has already got drainage holes in, years ago my OH couldn't be bothered to bail out water when lid got left off, so he just put the garden fork through the bottom - I was not happy!
One year a late frost killed of our courgetts or so I thought, so u planted more, the others grew back and we had a serious overdose of courgette that year lol
Am probly gonna put planting off for a while as we are due another cold spell !
