Hi I wrote mine out by hand before typing as was easier to get bits done here & there whilst babysitting at soft play etc!
The hand written bit was 56 pages long

    Pages and pages and pages...

A friend's SEF is 1 page per question and she has outstanding so it's not about quantity really

Too long... had call earlier in the week from Mrs O, she's coming out either tues next week or wed the next (|ong story) who asked me whether I had started it yet...STARTED IT...it was finished last weekend! She said if I downloaded it now, she might not be able to get it in time, so would I mind printing it out for when she came?
    Bizarre

I have never done a Sef and don't intend to ever do one. I was inspected in Sept and got Good with some Outstandings.

I hadn't had the time or inclination to spend such a lot of time on it and having got the inspection outcome I did I am not going to waste the time now!

I was able to show how I reflect on my practice and all my other paperwork was all up to date and accessible, i told the inspector I hadn't done one and she didn't bat an eyelid.

The thought of producing 50 + pages all about my setting in addition to all the paperwork we HAVE to do seems a nonsense just to praise myself and basically list all that the inspector can see anyway. It isn't compulsory and after all they have stopped schools doing a SEF now.

No doing the Sef is definitely not compulsory. It is up to you to decide to do it or not. All you need to do is demonstrate to the Inspector how you reflect on your business.

mine is only about 9 or is it 11 pages printed out?

My DO and other bods who have seen it were happy with it, i spent quite a while typing 'see XXX, YYY & ZZZ', ' see XXX, GGG & KKK ' rather than repeating myself. i also say once or twice that i would like more hours in the day and time to complete the SEF !!! hope i have an inspector with a sense of humour!
