Do we have to do the SEF or not.
Mine last inspector said not to worry about it, but my friend was told she has to do it before her next ofsted visit

It is not a statutory requirement to do your SEF. Nobody can make you do it.
However if you don't do it then you really need to show how else you evaluate your practice.
Ofsted are big on self evaluation and will probably negatively comment in your inspection report if you don't have something in place.
