    Default Temporary Assistant

    Hi all

Has anyone taken on an assistant during school holidays?

I have had enquiries for July but no spaces until september, so was thiking of getting a couple of assistants to help out temporarily over the holidays. I know I have to register them and first aid etc, but what about employing them etc. Do they need to work a minimum number of hours. Anything else you can think of would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks

The CRBs might not be back before the summer...

My understanding is that you would just need to make them a reasonable offer and pay them as self employed

My husband is my assistant and Ofsted said although he is enhanced CRB checked he also had to have a current paediatric first aid to register as my assistant (even though I hold a current certificate) - so he did that. (This was Ofsted's rule - incase he was ever left alone with a mindee)

My numbers have not gone up as Ofsted said even though he was here, our house size, mindees already on books and my own children did not really give space (as each child has a certain amount of space that Ofsted requires for them) to allow extra.

So he is my assistant, but on an as and when needed basis - such as adverse weather so not all children need to do school runs etc.

I also had to get all the parents to sign an agreement to say they were aware of my husband being my assistant and that they were happy for him to provide care for their child.

    Hope that helps.

    Lisa x
