    Default Co-minding contracts and ratios

I think we're doing the right thing but wanted to check! To give a simple example, on a Wednesday I am being asked to have 4 children all under 3 years (only one under 1 year). So all the children have a contract with me and the money is paid to me but my co-minder is here too (and has parents permission to provide care obviously). She only has 2 children under 5 that day so we are within our collective ratio. Is this ok?

Sounds right to me. My daughter is my assistant and I was told that space permitting she can have the same number of children as me for ratio purposes so 6 under 5 and 12 under 8 between us.

It might be worth checking with your insurance company as well. I'm not sure how it would work if the contracts were with you and it was actually a different minder who had responsibility for ratio purposes.

Good point. But presumably we could do contract between them and us both (ie both names on the contract)? We'd both be covered by the contract and therefore insured? We've only ever done separate contracts to keep a clear boundary so one person is the 'key person' for each child - to establish a bond/increase the child's security and have ultimate responsibility. What do other co-minders do? We do keep finances separate.

I must admit you have confused me abit with the talks of money and contacts.

You work with a co minder so can have 6 under 5 (Im assuming you have the space requirements and all is ok with planning)

What confused me you seem to be treating and and your co minder as separate people in the same business. So you are extending your numbers to 4 not 6 between you

We are separate people!? We work together but as our own business. She has her accounts, I have mine. Separate businesses but under the same roof as we live and work together. This is what is confusing me too. How do the ratios work if we are together all the time?

But thinking about it, assistants enable minders to take on more children yet the contracts and payment are all with the minder? So as long as there is the two of us it's ok?
