    Default 7 under 5s between 2

    Hi all,

I care daily for 6 under 5s between me and my assistant but I've been asked to extend two days with one child which will bring me to 7 under 5.

Can we do it as continuity of care?

    Thanks

As far as I understand the childminder can increase ratios for continuity of care. I'm not sure if this applies to the assistant. But as you are asking about 7, you should be ok with risk assessments and informing affected parents.

Don't forget, when you go over 6 children you need to check what planning permission implications there may be with your LA. Read this.....

Common sense would say that if you currently have 3 each, then you (as the registered childminder) should be allowed to grant yourself a variation to have 4 children - but sometimes common sense has nothing to do with it! As Rick says you also need to check out planning regulations and do thorough risk assessments.

Is there a reason we need planning permission for more than 6 children?

    Thank you

Different local authorities have different rules on it. Im guessing its noise to neighbours, car traffic etc
When someone tells you nothing is impossible, tell them to go slam a revolving door
