The way I do it is: she is self employed, no contract - only verbal as its very very flexible and she knows there's a small chance of hours being cut due to people leaving. Ofsted not bothered about her contract,

They like to see regular appraisals with you and her putting into writing
    - what was done well
    - what could be improved
    -action plan
I do these every six months (more at first)

They also like to see minutes of staff meetings. I write these even if the meeting was a chat .
This is listed in my diary along side my own reflective practise. Once monthly.

She shd have first aid and safeguarding training to be allowed to operate alone (up to 2 hrs) keep copies of her docs and her disclosure number (not the certificate)

I always do bank transfers so the evidence for my books is in my account. She doesn't register for tax as its under the minimum.

Hope others with assistants will tell me if I've missed anything or if I should be doing more.

    Thank you for your reply

I've put my numbers up with my assistant. So we have 5 under 5. We within ratio but should I notify ofsted about my numbers or is it ok. I've just read about variations.

I think I have this all wrong and I'm finding it hard to find any guidelines

My numbers with an assistant have gone up to 7 at times (see other threads by working this out)
    Sibling continuity.

    You need:

    A DBS/CRB check
A letter of suitability from Ofsted
Employers Liability Insurance - even if the person is self employed unless you have a copy of her PL certificate
    First Aid proof
Letter of permission from parents for childminder for assistant to have sole care of the children

I would have a contract with the assistant otherwise what recourse do you have if he/she walks away without notice?
Contingency plan if assistant is sick or on holiday

As to training - first aid, safeguarding, fire drills, eyfs (if relevant), where are your contact details etc...

    Its a minefield
