    Question Help with space requirements.

I am considering registering my OH as my assistant but have being driving myself mad with working out the space requirements! I have my measurements but don't know how to work out from there how many under five's of each age band.

I have read conflicting advice suggesting; double bed size for usual (6 under 8yrs) ratios or double bed size per child?!

I am looking to increase the number of 'young children' I can care for. (If I can't increase numbers it won't be worth doing)
At the moment the only over 5yr old I care for is one 8 yr old 2.5 hrs a week one day after school. When the contract ends I am not planning to take on any school aged children.
So I want to change my ratio's rather than increasing the total number of children I can have.

I have a large lounge and the way I have it laid out gives two areas used for play, I have measured the space not including sofas or toys/toy storage. Also not including kitchen or garden that are also used for play.

So can anyone help or advise?

With an assistant how many under 5's for space:
    Area 1 3m x 1.6m = 4.5
    Area 2 3.1m x 3.3m = 10.23

    Total area 14.73 m'2

    Any help gratefully received!

Yes that's what I'm going by - How do you get numbers for each age band from that?!

    Is this right?

    3.5 for 1 x under 2
    7.5 for 3x 2yrs
    2.3 for 1x 3-5yrs
    12.5 total

    7.0 for 2 x under 2
    5.0 for 2x 2yrs
    2.3 for 1x 3-5yrs
    14.3 total

If so it's something that needs monitoring as children get older so move age brackets and as new children start.
