    Default Risk Assessments

    Hi,

Please could anyone help I have my pre-reg check next week and really struggling with risk assessments. We were never taught how to complete a risk assessment during our cypop5 course and can't get my head around how to reduce risks just one example would be radiators and what further action needs to take place.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks you

In 'Free Resources - Free Downloads' above there are lots of good reference documents, for example here is one for RA: Writing Risk Assessments

    Hi,
Try to keep it simple and think logically. For example - radiators, the risk may be that these are set at too high a temperature, the action would be to monitor the temperature and keep it at a sensible and safe level. Don't make it any more complicated than it is. Look at each of your rooms point by point and just think about what could be a risk and why and what action you will take.

So - you have a lamp that has a trailing wire, the risk of harm could be that a child could trip over the wire or could strangle themselves wire the wire. Your actions could be,
remove the lamp, fix the wire to the skirting board, tuck the wire behind furniture etc. You make the decision about what you will do!

The whole point of risk assessment is that you personally assess your own setting for potential hazards and then you decide how you will minimise the risk of harm. In simple terms - how will you keep the children safe!

As I said, try to think of it point by point and think of it as 'how will I keep children safe?'. 'Risk assessment' is not as complicated as it sounds and you will already be doing it all the time, it's just that you don't think about it or write it down.

Hope this makes sense & good luck, you will get through it!!
