I check it every day - and record it if something goes wrong

Have you got the document - Safer Food Better Business for Childminders?

    It's online here -

    http://www.food.gov.uk/foodindustry/...bchildminders/

It will tell you everything you need to know about food safety

I don't record fridge or freezer temperatures either - complete waste of time in my very humble opinion.

Me too, it's now a habit, I check it as I make my breakfast, but I only tick on my daily diary that it's been checked and only record if there is a problem.

Completely agree, I have a fridge thermometer and apply common sense. We are not required to record temps, unless something goes wrong- as it says in the Food Standards Agency childminders folder. So, if I found the fridge too warm, I know there is something wrong with the fridge as it has been working perfectly. So I write it in my Food Standards Agency childminders folder on the pages at the back for your checks, and get the fridge fixed. Never happened to me so far!

when we replaced our fridge and freezer we bought ones with a digital display on the outside, so we can see it constantly I have never been asked about any food hygiene issues by ofsted, in fact they have never been inside the kitchen

I have one like this too but it is my understanding that you still have to check - a friend of mine who has a nursery was pulled for it by env health because when checked with their thermometer the reading was very different to what was displayed on the outside.

I was told by the EHO who visited me last year that I don't need to write down the tepm. each day. Waste of time and paperwork! Just to write down if something goes wrong.
My fridge/freezer does have the temp on the outside but i still keep a thermometer inside the fridge and check it every so often.
