Hi
Do any of you have a permission form for using the Wii / Xbox / DS etc? Do we need to have one?
Hi
Do any of you have a permission form for using the Wii / Xbox / DS etc? Do we need to have one?
I don't. I have in my handbook that I have these items available and children will be able to use them with age appropriate games. That's all.
I do have a wii policy:
Video Games Policy
I have the following video game resources that are available for the children in my care;
Nintendo wii
These games can be very helpful in developing skills such as
• Hand eye co-ordination
• Timing
• Turn taking
• Educational
However I feel that the time spent on these should be limited. I will discuss with parents on a regular basis the games that they are happy for their children to be playing and how long I will allow them to play. I will work with you to develop strategies for limiting the time played so as for it not to become an issue with your child. For example time warnings, providing memory cards so games can be saved etc.
I will not allow any child to play with games that are of a violent nature. If your child wishes to bring games with them to play I would be grateful if you would discuss with me first, as I care for children of all ages and I need to ensure the suitability of them.
If you do not wish your child to play with video games or if they have a condition that might be triggered by them please let me know
wow 2012 already
I don't have a permission form but as above the fact that a wii is on offer is in my activity plan and also only age appro games x
God Bless xx T
Mine comes under my Toys and Games policy and holds the same info as above

I am i ging mad??????
Whats the difference between using a wii or xbox over any other piece of equipment/resource?
I'm not paranoid - the world IS out to get me!
The difference between wii/playstation etc and other activities is that there are parents who will not want you to use them in your setting and there are children who cannot use them because of medical issues such as epilepsy.
As with all things, you need to know that parents won't be upset to discover their child has been using these things and a permission form is clear proof and gives you the opportunity to explain the positive elements which might not have occurred to some parents.
Its a pia, but everyday things we might assume parents will know - like going to the park or even setting foot outside the front door - HAVE initiated complaints against childminders simply because the parent had made assumptions and not discussed their views with their childminder. You also need to watch out for dvds and games children might bring with them. I've had to take 15 and 18 certificate items away from an under 10
