Daily risk assesments
Hi,
Can we do a daily risk assessment check before the children arrive mentally or does it have to be written down and ticked off for our records?
Thanks 😀

I've got a form on my noticeboard for my daily checks. I don't actually tick it off - it's just there as a reminder as I mentally tick it off.
(I find myself risk-assessing all the time anyway - even the children's moods, toys brought from home and their behaviour! Don't know how you'd get those on a form!)
Hope that helps,
L

No RA need to be written.
Why write down what you can perfectly do without? There is no need to 'keep records' of daily check.
It is not asked for in the EYFS.
I have my old written RAs which I update as needed and review annually.
I do not have any daily check list, I know my setting and what needs checking and I check all the time.
What does a tick on a list mean anyway? That is a system nurseries use where a manager has to delegate these things to staff and the manager needs to check up on who has done what. But if you work alone you have no one to prove it to!
If we can reduce our paperwork we can all spend more time on other more important things!

My risk assessment file contains
6 monthly risk assessment of the house
Emergency evacuation procedure
Outing risk assessments, done annually / as new child starts
Any risks noticed and actioned taken - more for bigger things like when my fence panel blown down. I don't do this for toys as they get worn or broken
Fire alarm check
Monthly first aid audit
I had an inspection end of April and the inspector was impressed, but said I did too much

Sounds excellent to me, Rubybubbles. Is that why you only got a Good? (I'll never understand their gradings!)

my good was based on my lack of outdoor:roll eyes: and partnership with other settings (although I have worked blooming hard but not enough so it seems!) both were the only negatives I put on my SEF too.... another thread me thinks haha!

Classic Ofsted - they used your negatives against you.
This time round, the only negative I'm putting on my SEF is to find a way of making the SEF slightly less detailed so it is an easier read for an Inspector. See how they can downgrade me/anyone on that one!
Great idea for a thread - what's the best NOT negative thing to put on your SEF?
(For example, old interview questions - e.g. "Tell me one thing you'd like to improve about yourself". Mine was always "Even though my previous boss was delighted with my work, I would like to work on giving myself more credit for the great work I do." (Or some such tosh!) (I learned never to give them a real negative or it would be used as a reason not to hire me!!)

Lol ... my SEF says that I'd like more hours in the day to complete SEF in!
