    Default Attendance Registers

    Hi,

I am newly registered and have my first parents coming to night!!

At my pre reg, the Ofsted lady mentioned attendance registers. I know I have to keep all copies, but do these have to be signed by a parent every day they are with me? Weekly? Or can i just keep one for myself.

I was thinking of doing a sheet with date, childs names, in & out times then a parents signature just for my records? The potential children are only after schoolers so would not need a daily diary.

Any help on how you all do it would be great.

    thank you.
    Danielle

    Hi,
My Inspector also said this was a requirement when I had my pre-reg. I got the impression that as long as you record name/time in & out then that's fine but I would be interested to hear what others are doing! My Inspector said some CM's record contracted hours and not 'time in & out', which is unacceptable!!

There is no requirement to have parents sign any register. It is not mentioned in EYFS or Childcare Register.

    Some people do it because:

1] they want to avoid any future issue whereby there may be an incident- for example: where something happens to a child and a parent says 'Johnny was with you that day and it must be your fault' when actually you can prove by a signed register that he wasn't and parents can not dispute if they have signed. BUT how this stands up in a court of law I have no idea, is an un-signed register any less evidence? Who knows!

2] they charge parents in arrears and want to be able to agree with parents exactly what days/times child was present.

3] they just feel it is right and proper and feels like it is 'good practice'.

I have parents sign each 4-weeks. I have a 8-week-per-A4 sheet I use per child. I used to use NCMA/Pacey register which also has a place for parents to sign.

I use my own sheets - date, children's names, times in and out (split into am and pm so can show if child is in school/playgroup etc in morning).

I use one sheet per week for all the children - I fill it in, don't get parents to sign it (there are various threads on the forum about whether or not we should have attendance records signed).

I just use a plain diary, cant be doing with lots of individual bits of paper! Write each childs name and times attended and that's it. I don't get signatures either .

I use MM attendance sheets, one side per month
Above the 'Child's name' I write w/c above each column and that way should there ever be a dispute that requires documents to be shown to a third party, I don't have to spend time blanking out other children's attendance and photocopying blanked out sheets

It is good practice to get parents to sign (but I don't)
I do however put down ACTUAL time of arrival and departure rather than contracted times, and a note of why if there's an absence (Mum off, Child ill, At Grans etc)

I use the pacey attendance book with a page per child per month. I put actual hours as well as any reason for absence/late etc.
Some of my parents sign, but as I do some handovers at school I don't get those parents to sign.

I have 1 x A4 sheet per child per month. I record actual in and out times. I don't get parents to sign them.

Thats great thank you for that, I am on the right track. I have just cobbled together an Excel spread sheet to print off or maybe just keep on my computer then.

    thank you.
