Default Wording a letter for termination of contract

As you may have read in my prev post, I have a situation with a parent that I am now wanting to end my contract with because of.

Because of the circumstances, I am struggling with how to word the termination letter???? Any help would be much appreciated.

Also, on my NCMA contract, section 25. Notice of termination of contract says 'If parent/child behaviour is or becomes such that the wellbeing/safety of chilminder/childre/children in care are threatened childminder can terminate immediately

Now I understand that at the moment there has been no threatening behaviour just nasty rumours etc being spread, but if on ending contract she becomes verbally threatening or such am I then able to re-write a termination letter stating due to her behaviour the contract is being terminated with immediate effect?

My local NCMA say that I dont have this option, only to run the 4 weeks notice but my neighbour thinks that her behaviour so far has been unacceptable and that being pg I dont need this extra stress and should be able to end now as per the notes on the contract?

Sorry it a long thread, just want to make sure I get this right as this parent is going to make my life difficult as it is.

    Tricky one.

I think I would word the letter just very basic and not giving an explanation if you dont want too. Just say you are ending the contract, the last day will be XX and the fees outstanding are XX.

If she turns nasty on you then I would tell her to get lost and not honour the notice period.

Im sure if you went to the GP he would write you a back up letter saying the stress is no good for a pregnant lady if the need arose.

Depends whether you want to state why you are terminating or not. You don't HAVE to give her a reason. You can just state that you are terminating the contract giving her 4 weeks notice.

I hope she doesn't cause you too much stress over it.

    Thanks, does this sound ok?

'Due to circumstances that have arisen, I have come to the decision that I am no longer be able to care for your daughter *****. She has been a pleasure to have, and I apologise for any inconvenience this decision may cause.
Please take this letter as notice of termination of our contract as from Friday 6th June 2008. The last day of minding will be Friday 5th July and fees of £420 will still be due for this period whether you continue to place her with me or not.'

What a position to be in, Does your contract state you have to give 4 weeks notice? or could you bring it down to 2 weeks? I would serve the termination letter as soon as possible as then at least you can look forward to eventually not dealing with her, What happens if you serve the letter with notice and then fall ill? ;-)

    Good Luck with everything!

    Sounds fine to me!

I would just say 'in accordance with our contract, fees of £420 etc...'

    thanks for that ladies

one other thing, contract is only signed by mum as they not married, but chances are dad will be picking lo up today as he off and he also having her 2moro and Friday. Am I ok to give this notice to him in an addressed env to her? as i would prefer not to drop it through their letterbox, and I not going to see her until Monday afternoon when she collects.

Are Mum and Dad still together? You need to be sure that she has received the letter.

I posted my termination letter recorded delivery as J was off the week I had planned to give it to his Mum.

They are together, they live together, just not married, she keeps all her affairs money and such seperate to dads so this is why she only signed the contract, as she only wanted the responsibility of paying for her.

I wouldn't put that bit in in case things turn...as they can do! If they want to know why your giving notice...just say you need to cut back on your hours on medical advice!

*hugs* hope it all went/goes ok.

Personally I would have put the real basic letter, then if she asked why i would tell her exactly why.

    Take care of yourself x
