Default Problems insuring my Mazda Bongo

Hi. I am just in the process of buying a Mazda Bongo which will be great for childminding as it has 8 seats. However, trying to insure it has left me aghast. Obviously as a 'grey import' from Japan, only certain insurance companies will insure it, but when I add the childminding into the mix, the prices seem to sky-rocket. My cheapest quote so far is £850. Can any other 'Bongo Childminders' please let me know what they are paying for their insurance and who it is with?

    Many thanks indeed.

Many thanks Pillows! I'll ring them tomorrow. We tried a search on Go Compare, but not one company would insure us, not even Swintons! I am guessing that speaking to them may glean a result then.

I spoke to a colleague today who has insured her bongo for around £400 with LV. We are currently with LV for our current car and told them that a colleague had a policy with them, but they couldn't understand how as they categorically do not insure Japanese imports! She may have failed to tell them it was imported and therefore won't be covered if she has accident

I am also going to try 'Motorminder' who are insurers recommended by the NCMA, but I am sure they won't cover Imports either as it seems to be an uncommon request!

There are a few insurance companies listed on a bongo website which I am ploughing through, but to be honest the few quotes we have had appear to be being plucked out of thin air!
Any more input from forum members will still be gratefully received!
    Thanks

    Thanks DebbieS26

It looks like Rampdale only insure motorcyles and mopeds, not that their site was working properly!!

Well I tried swintons and they quoted £900+. In fact we had quotes from £1300 down to £534. So I am having to go with Aviva (via NCMA recommended insurance brokers 'motorminder)' at £534. I am sick of spouting my details to at least ten companies!!!! Hopefully the premium will reduce year on year. Thanks for your input fellow CMs x

Adrain Flux is very good on imports as we have an import and with everything, as in legal cover and full breakdown cover £500
