    Default Childcare Costs Survey

Pacey are running a survey for the Government and need input regarding childcare costs. I have just completed it and they don't want to know what you earn/charge but generic answers on funded children.

It is important that this is completed by as many people as possible otherwise the rate won't be highered and more childminders/carers will abstain from the funding and children will miss out

If they bring in the pupil premium for nursery aged children all the children will end up at school attached nurseries because they will get priority places in the school and make it even harder for childminders. I live in an area with a high proportion of vulnerable/deprived children and forces families so not keen on the pupil premium myself

I can't fill it in yet as still waiting for DO to appear and sign me up for the funding, not long till xmas though

I am booked for a meeting in late September though which covers the pupil premium, so there is something going on with that not sure what until I have been there or somebody on here let's us know how we will be affected.

Feel as if childminders are being squeezed out for schools to take over and I'm only just starting. Maybe I should forget first inspection and get a job in a nursery

And imo removing some of the children who are most in need of a GOOD home based experience and would benefit from positive role models within the home. I know not all pp children lack in this but an awful lot of children do.

you CAN fill it in, as it asks if you have funded children or not. still worth doing I think.

I do however, have funded children. I've just filled it in and added my 2 pennyworth! I was a bit confused with the question about dealing with working tax credits ... as its the parents who deal with it, not me!

This survey is being run to prepare an answer to the Lords Select Committee who are looking ...or researching...the real cost of providing high quality childcare
There was news of this research recently with Family and Daycare Trust and PLA giving evidence

It also includes questions on the Pupil Premium...this will be available to ALL providers not just schools...so CMs who draw funding can claim it after they are told by parents they meet the criteria

The PPremium is worth.... 53 pence per hour per child....so yes up to £300 per child and the money will have no conditions on what it is spent on

One of the questions asks whether the PP would help to improve outcomes?
I fear not...it is quality not money that delivers outcomes

If you wish to learn more look at this consultation which explains the conditions...still time to complete

Pupil Premium and 2 year old funding

That's an interesting document Simona & answers most of the questions I have about EYPP. Sadly I don't think I will ever have many children who qualify. I do receive a small increase in the hourly rate for funded 3 & 4yr olds as they live in an 'area of deprivation', but the families themselves wouldn't qualify for PP.

It creates an interesting scenario. Will I now look to take on qualifying 3 & 4 year olds so that I will receive and extra 53p an hour (which would give me slightly over my hourly rate), or will I continue with the usual families I have (well paid, no benefits) which means I continue to receive less than my hourly rate?

I know there have been concerns that school nurseries will aim to attract more children from low income families, but I can see that happening across all sectors. Are the families who earn above the threshold going to find it harder to find childcare?
