    Default how many over 8s?

I have a nearly 5 year old, a 8, 11 and 13 year old. I am insured with pacey. How many over 8s in addition to my children can I care for? Thanks.

I didn't think there was a limit, although I don't have any so it could have been my imagination.

Sorry didn't want to read and run but hopefully with more experience in this area can help.

MM have a limit of 12 children in total. I don't know what Pacey state, it should be in your documents or on their website

Not sure exactly on numbers but the over 8's should not impact on the care of your EY children

I think Pacey insurance has a limit of 12 children, but I'm not sure if that includes your own children up to the age of 17.

The best thing is to phone them tomorrow & double check

I have just spoke to pacey. They have confirmed I am covered for 6 under5s and six over 5s. They have confirmed these numbers are only for minded children and your own children do not count. Obviously my own children come into it with ofsted. Does this sound right to every one?

Yes, that sounds right. Ofsted numbers & insurance numbers are different, but you have to abide by them both.

As far as Ofsted are concerned you are generally able to look after 6 children under 8. That number includes any of your own children in that age range. There is no limit to the number of over 8s you can look after, but the care of the older children mustn't impact on the care of the younger children. You'd also have to consider the available floor space you have.

Your insurance will cover you for up to 12 children, as they've told you.

If you are planning on having that many children you will have to find out whether or not you need planning permission.

There is a bit of confusion about this matter...children over 8 are not part of EYFS ratio and, correct me if I am wrong, they are part of the Voluntary register

I cannot find anywhere on pacey insurance about how many we are allowed and if I get a minute I will call them later
There is a difference between children 0-8 and over 8...I love looking after the older children and I know many don't.

This is what the policy document says:

    Number of children covered
The policy provides you with cover for the number
of children in your care at any one time subject to
the maximum number of children permitted by
the relevant registering body and an overall policy
maximum of 12 children at any one time.

    The policy covers:

    1. Registered Childminder
    a. In England - any Childminder registered with Ofsted
for the care of children up to eight years of age
    b. In Wales - any Childminder registered with Care
and Social Services Inspectorate in Wales for the
care of children up to eight years of age

    and

    3. 8s and Over Childminder
Any Childminder who is registered on the voluntary
part of Ofsted’s Childcare Register to mind children
over eight years of age up to seventeen years of age
and who are members of PACEY
