    Default Ofsted been!!!

Yeah ofsted came today and I am now back up to good after being 'inadequate' for a year after confusion over numbers!!
Apparantly ofsted are more relaxed this year with your own children at school. I was downgraded because when I counted my own children into the equation (even though were at school full time) they brought my under 8s to 7!!! According to ofsted today if you can prove that if your children were poorly or needed to be at home then either your child could go somewhere else or your minded children go home then you DON'T have to count them in your under 8 numbers!!! First time I've heard it though so you may want to check for yourselves!!
The inspection was much more like what it should be with lots of emphasis on how I am with the children, how do I know what stage they are at, how do I plan their next steps etc. also communication with parents and pre schools was a big thing.
For all those childminders who panic about paperwork don't be!! I'm not into written planning, don't do it!! I write down observations of the children, write next steps, write summerative reports, learning journeys and self evaluations but I don't write daily, group, individual plans and this wasn't picked up on wasnt asked for. The inspector could see I knew my children from the observations, next steps and watching me with the children.
Make sure you have something in your safeguarding policy about camera and mobile phone safeguarding.
There was the usual questions about safeguarding and what would I do if I thought a child was being abused and what signs I would look for in the children.
To be outstanding I need to go above and beyond the norm... An example she gave was as well as growing vegetables, I need to show we do more with them in the setting, use them in cooking, sell them etc!!

    Feeling really pleased x

Aww how lovely to go up to where you're happy with! I too was delighted with my Good for a first inspection, you'd think I'd won a gold medal lol
Well done and great advice given for others who will have their inspections coming up, always useful to know roughly what OFSTED are focusing on xx

Fantastic news - pity the inspector wasn't a bit more understanding with your own children in your ratios last time though and then you would have kept your Good and wouldn't have had to go through another inspection. Thanks for the feedback - hope Ofsted come to me quick then and see our runner beans growing and that the children are helping with the chickens and selling the eggs. Oh can't believe I just said Ofsted come quick - didn't mean it!

That's great to read. Well done. And thanks for the positive feedback - as a new cm reading this forum has made me more scared than ever of Ofsted (I'm due my first inspection soon) so thanks for proving its not all bad.

Well done but I think it is important anyone should contact ofsted about ratios as the eyfs clearly states 6under 8 we don't want lots of people suddenly having more!

Yes that's why I said to check first because its the first i heard about it. Apparantly the wording has changed but I haven't seen it.
