I didn't do my SEF and still got graded GOOD.

You just have to show your method of self evaluation and I choose to do mine at the bottoem of my planning sheets and other paperwork.

    You'll be fine!

You can get TONS done in two weeks.
You do not need to do the SEF but like Minty says you need to show some type of Self Evaluation
i think NCMA has a Self Reflection tool on their website if yu are a member.

You can just start doing your SEF bit by bit.

don;t panic and organise small chunks to do each day

    you will be fine

I had not done my online SEF - and told inspector that don't intend to - as don'tlike the format - and I still got outstanding (in OCT 10)

HOWEVER I evaluate all the time and write an evaluation of the week on back of my outline planning (which is very basic) . For me this evaluation is much more important and works much better than the Ofsted one.

The inspector told me that you don't have to do the ofsted one and can do whatever you want as long as you do some sort of self evaluation.

You also have to identify your strenghts and weaknesses - I did not have this on paper at time of inspection but was in my head and inspector said I had covered it when talking to her about the things that had not worked and I was planning to change and my plans for the future. She asked me questions to cover the bits that I had not covered - mainly my strenghts as I waffled for ages about weaknesses but not my strenghts as I her I always think there is room for improvement - and apparently this was a good answer and showed I was self reflective (personally I thought it shows I lack self confidence!).

Anyway as others have said no need to panic - go over any planning you have and write a few notes looking back on how it went or start to write a bit in a note book or in your diary - maybe from the start of this year - and tell inspector as part of your reflection over the holiday you decided that it would improve your practice if you did a weekly self evaluation. You could also if you have time write a yearly evaluation for last year just picking on the major things and compliment it with a action plan for this year to address any issues from the evaluation.

    Good luck

I did not do mine and still got graded as outstanding.

Know your policies inside and out

    do your risk assesments

make sure all other paperwork is up to date

Do as much of your SEF as you can, but dont stress yourself out over it.

My inspecter asked me why I had not done mine and I told her that I had attempted it but found it too repeatative, and that I felt I could express myself better in person.

She told me that the SEF was a tool to help minders show there setting in the best way.

I felt it would be better for me personally to tell the inspecter about my setting during my inspection, and see my practice in action.

Good luck with your inspection x

I would have a go and do the easier bits - then you can say you've started! Two weeks is ages if you did an area a night it would be finished!

i did mine in 4 hours.......and i had no idea what i was doing.

i didnt use long words & complicated language otherwise when the inspector meets me she would think it was done by someone else, your SEF is just that....YOUR self evaluation
    What a crock!!!

as long as you show your reflective ( make note of if you've had dev worker round that is very reflective ask parents in questionnaires how you could improve your setting ect) i would of thought that covers it but who knows i would be tempted to read through it as mrs o asked me lots of very similar question to what where in the sef

Two weeks notice is very good - once you've got over the shock you'll know you have time to get things in order.

    Good luck!

It took me about 3 hours to fill it in - just basic information. To be honest, I needn't have bothered as the inspector didn't have access to Ofsted's system, so hadn't seen it. I had been writing things down in a notebook, things that didn't work and I had improved. I got graded 'good' in all areas and she noted on my report that I did have a system for self-evaluation.
