Ofsted are not the enemy ... if something - anything - happens in your home or family life which changes the conditions of your registration PLEASE ring or email and tell them!

Things like... you are ill and have new medication or your partner is home on long term sick leave or your assistant's medical or suitability status changes or your teenager does something daft and the police or social services are involved.

They will log it against your name and they might come out to check on things which I know causes anxiety BUT if you don't tell them you could be in very serious trouble like a colleague I am supporting at the moment

Let them decide if they want to know or not...

I like to read recent local Ofsted reports (yes, sad isn't it) and I read one just last week where a minder was put down to requires improvements or inadequate (can't remember which) due to the fact that she didn't inform Ofsted that her grown up son had moved OUT of the property. So sad, but so easy to do without even realising.

I think it's all about ensuring their records are up to date. (It's our responsibility to let them know if anything changes.)

I've got a mental note to phone them in a few months when my son turns 8. Don't know why I think this is important, but that's what I'm intending to do anyway (even though I'm pretty sure someone there can count!) - But you just never know.

Feel sorry for poor Childminder who's going through it at the moment.

Oh my goodness! They will have a field day here. my daughter has moved out, moved twice and got married and a family friend who has lived here for 12 years has also gone now. Both since my last inspection (2009) and I hadn't given it a thought that they wold be interested

I bet you're doing paperwork on day 5 - so that technically is you working.

I'm in the same position, but I don't feel I need to tell Ofsted that, as there may be times when I will have children on a Friday to help out existing families. (I've actually got 2 this Friday, for example. So I'm still available whether or not I have demand for it.)

Hope that makes sense. Somebody correct me if I've got this wrong!

I think there are also issues if you grown up child moves out ( who had CRB), they need to be informed if they move back in, and I believe they then need a DBS. ( I don't think this apples to kids being at Uni, only PROPER moving out or moving back in)

I emailed ofsted earlier as I went back through my records and could find no mention of dd turning 8!
Reply was that my records match what I told them (so I assume I told them and they noted it!) and that it 'is the responsibility of the childminder to meet the requirements of eyfs and this will be reviewed during an inspection'.
I shall take a copy of email and response to file!

We used to have to tell them when our children were 8 so they could come off our registered numbers but that's not a requirement any more...

It's just important that they know anything that might affect our registration... it's not clear cut unfortunately and a lot of it is very grey so I feel it's best to tell them and let them decide what to do with the information

Many relatives have died over the last 4 years but they did not reside at my address. I don't think Ofsted need to know about any of that.

The cynical part of me thinks that Ofsted want to know if your husband leaves you, moves out, then moves back in , so that his CRB is no longer valid, and a DBS check needs to be done at a cost of over £50, and while he is competing the form, he might as well get the updates at a further cost of £13 per year forever! (But something could have been picked up about him while not living with you - so a new check should be done)

If he left, then returned, and he still has his original CRB, then some event could have been missed while not with you.

Although cynical, as I am writing this, I can see why Ofsted need to know.

I think I have high blood pressure so if I go on medication i will have to tell them. Then make sure all my paperwork is up to date as I am sure it will encourage them to do my inspection.
