I've seen a few mentions on facebook, but haven't heard from anyone local who has had an unannounced inspection. I wonder if individual inspectors are trying to meet their targets

Last person inspected in my area was early June. I keep thinking they are going to come through the summer when all the pre schools are closed, if they did everyone unannounced it would be fairer and less stressful.

if they did surprise inspections in my area, they could be driving round all day trying to find someone to inspect! there is a minder a couple of miles from me, the next is 7 miles in one direction and 8 in the other!

I had a mum want to pop in and see me ( not that she told me this ) and she said she had tried for 3 weeks on several different days/times but i was never in! I think I might have been in the garden one of the days, but wasn't expecting anyone and can't hear front door or see anyone who might be there!

Received an email from our early years team to say there have been a few unannounced inspections in my area recently and to make sure paperwork is up to date!

Our early team are telling us to work as if they could tomorrow - which in fairness they could.

I'm in 2 minds over the surprise inspection 1) I wouldn't like to open the door and find Ofsted there 2) It would make it a level playing field for us all no preparation they are coming, no stress etc.

is it unannounced in Wales? But you know the inspector? That to me would be the perfect

I had a surprise visit once, as a result of a complaint, it was horrid but I did ok.
If I had one now it might be very difficult, some days I care for a child with autism and there is no way he would cope - or me with him - with a stranger in the house. I would love to be able to show how I care for him, the different things I do with him, the working with his nursery and specialists etc etc, but I would end up having to comfort him and calm him down the whole time. It would be impossible. If I knew they might come I could explain this and suggest the days he doesn't come. In fact, I have always found the children react very differently to Mrs/Mr O.

That's why I never answer the door during the day, if I'm not expecting you you're not gonna get an answer, I want at least 24 hrs notice

My friend raised a good point, how are we to know they are genuineif they just turn up,anyone could fake I.D and turn up at your door and at 8 in the morning you can hardly ring ofsted and check they work for them.
I know nurseries have unannounced inspection but they are not on their own with the children and so the inspector wild be watched the whole time.

Unannounced Ofsted inspections are triggered by complaints...mostly anonymous
There is a huge worry about them recently

If you read this it will clarify
Is the current Ofsted strategy masking something far more sinister? | June O'Sullivan's blog | London Early Year's Foundation

As a result providers, including cms are attending meetings to open up discussions with Oftsed...it is called #OfstedBigCoversation...there are 5 of them all over the country so cms should be able to attend if they wish
I am going on the London one on 13 Sept and once I know what is required as evidence I will post it
PLA and NDNA have joined in this campaign...Pacey are considering joining

There is a thread on the Independent cms section in this forum if you want to update yourself
These inspections are becoming more and more frequent...my LA sent an email to all providers warning them and also asked those inspected to report back to them on the result

    Hope this helps

Our local Children's Centre had a surprise inspection last Monday... waiting to hear the outcome. I thought it was a bit strange being out of normal term time as their numbers go right down during the holidays (they don't advertise the fact that they can offer stretched hours).
