Had my first inspection.......
I had my first insepection today, was so worried and have been preparing for days. She was really nice.
I registered last august and got awarded a satisfactory. Was a little gutted as she said I had 2 things out of place and I could have got a good. One being diversity and the other being outside more. I have 1 mindee at the moment aged 14 months so she gave me ideas of how to get out in the garden. Oh well, suppose I should be pleased!!

Very well done You can relax now for a while

What did the inspector mean by 'diversity'?
Surely you're not expected to 'do' multicultural celebrations with one so young? (IMO they'd get nothing out of it at that age and it would be merely for Ofsted's benefit).
Or did the inspector mean your resources? I've been working since September so haven't had much time (or cash) to build up a lot of things. At the moment I have some dolls with different colour skin, happyland/duplo figures and books representing different kinds of people. Oh and lots of Orchard Toys games for when the LOs are a bit older. I always try and choose the 'inclusive' option if it's there and there are a few bits on my wish list for when I earn a bit more
Life is all about how you handle plan B

I was the same. Worked as a civil engineer for 8 years sitting behind a desk.
First thing is it will not be as bad as you think! My main piece of advice would be to make sure you can answer all the questions in the Ofsted booklet they give you with their application pack. Not word for word but write the answers out and feel confident you could answer each one. The reason for this is it is very difficult to keep up with the inspectors questions and where you are in the booklet. It wouldn't look too good if after every question you ask the inspector to stop while you flick through your answers!
Don't go overboard with your home. The inspector won't check you have cleaned the oven for example!
Hope it all goes ok

Thanks for that, are you referring to the questions you have for the pre-reg visit? I have had that visit this is for my graded inspection, im worried about things like observations and things like that hopefully she will be happy with what ive been doing just hope i haven't forgot anything. Ps i hope she does check the oven ive cleaned it especially ha ha

Hi, thanks for the tips about outside play etc, mine are 15 months & 10 months, do my best but will make sure I tell her we go out etc What did she mean by diversity?
-
Having some pictures or posters up of different cultures and ages and abilities goes a long way with Ofsted. There is also a good set of play people you can buy that includes a lady on a wheel chair and someone on crutches etc.(got ours from toy library) Then books such as Don't call me special . All can be bought on eBay. The programme on cbeebies with special in the name that includes children with special needs (forget the title)
At the very least some library books showing different cultures that you leave obviously on show.
Nb diversity includes different ages so we had family photos up too that Ofsted remarked on.
Hopefully other people will have suggestions.
