Think about what how a one year old child child would experience Diwali if it was being celebrated in his own home. He would see his family dressed in beautiful clothes - why not start putting together a treasure basket of beautiful sari fabrics and Indian bangles. He would sample some special celebratory food - you could plan a special menu (I do a basic dahl and the toddlers make chapatis (sp?) which the toddlers make - not very celebratory but it is baby friendly). They would probably hear festive music - you could download some and dance to it. You could also light some diwas. Babies love looking at faces, so why not print out some faces of other children in their Diwali clothes and put them in a treasure basket. I try to think of sensory experiences for this age rather than finished product art and craft type of activities. They are not really going to understand any of the concepts relating to Diwali but you can still meet all areas of learning and introduce them to another culture. Have fun!

My 2.5 year old boy has been invited to a Diwali party on Monday and it's been suggested he dress up for the occasion.
I would be grateful for any ideas for what he can wear? Thanks in advance.

I'm thinking of doing a rangoli floor decoration in my garden which is concrete. Probably a bit ambitious with a 2 year old but just thought it would be fun for them to splash paint around!

do any of you give diwali gifts to your Hindu families?

One of my families have a 4 year old daughter and a 1 year old boy and I was wondering what sort of thing I could give to them as a present.
