Default Morton Michel – enhanced Legal Expenses cover

Morton Michel have raised the level of Legal Expenses cover offered to childminders!

For only £5 extra a year (payable at renewal) we now get full cover if we are called as ‘intervenors’ in civil court cases. This is a really important extra layer of cover for childminders and will provide us with everything we need so we are fully supported through civil court cases.

More information from the Morton Michel newsletter here -

As of 1st January 2014, irrespective of when your policy is due for renewal, all our Childminder policyholders have enhanced Legal Expenses cover.

The additional cover provides legal representation for childminders called as ‘intervenors’ in civil court cases as a result of a child in their care suffering an unexplained injury.

As an intervenor, a childminder is required to attend Public Childcare Proceedings which have been set up to establish how the child was injured. Anyone who has had charge of the child concerned during the period when the injury was caused can be called as an intervenor, including grandparents, nursery staff and childminders.

During the hearings, intervenors can be questioned by barristers and can ask questions of their own. It is therefore essential that childminders have legal representation to protect their interests. Although an intervenor is not being directly accused, the outcome of the proceedings could affect whether or not they are later charged with a criminal act or are found to have been negligent in any way.
