    Default Get Your Potatoes ready!

Just thought I would post this as a reminder. I have just got this email.

    Are you ready for planting?
Potato Council have now distributed over 17,000 growing packs to schools for the Grow Your Own Potatoes project. Your school should have received one of these packs by now and you should have started chitting your potatoes. Make sure you have placed your seed potatoes in two empty egg boxes so that the children can watch the sprouts develop and don’t forget to have the different varieties clearly labelled.

Now is a good time to organise a planting day around 13th March when all the children can help to plant the seeds in the grow bags provided. By getting the children involved in the planting of the seeds you will find they have an increased enthusiasm for the caring of their plants and the harvesting of the potatoes in June will be a very exciting time for them as they can celebrate their achievements.

With thousands of primary schools across the country taking part in this project, we are keen to support the teachers with the relevant resources required to make this project a fun and educational experience. Keep using the website www.gyop.potato.org.uk. and the lessons available for you online.

We have recently launched a secondary school site too so that your children will be able to build on this project knowledge as they progress through their education www.cyop.potato.org.uk

Good luck with your potatoes and we look forward to receiving your competition entries in July. Remember, it doesn’t matter how small your harvest is, we still want to hear about it!

Chatting is putting them in egg boxes or similar to allow them to sprout before you plant them

You wont get any potatoes from the potato Council this year. You can get them and the bags from garden centres and yes they are still available and you are not too late at all to get going to plant this year.

If you follow the link I have posted you will see a box top left with 'Register for 2013' on it. Follow their links and register. You will have to give yourself a name like I am registered as Rickysmiths.
