Learning journeys
Sorry, I'm sure this has been asked before but who's property are learning journeys if a child were to move on/leave etc? Would you keep it to show ofsfed, or would you pass it to the parents or new setting?
This hasn't happened to me but wondering what would be the procedure if it did?

Any learning paperwork should go with the child. You keep the accident forms and contracts etc

I was just thinking last night how sad I'll feel when I have to let my LJs go! I actually enjoy doing them :-)

It is hard to let them go! Especially when you know they won't be valued!
But there are always new ones to do!

Your LJ can be seen by another setting but that setting will start their own LJ to evidence to Ofsted...they would rarely keep yours and add on.
Although you hand the LJ to parents when they leave it would be wise to have a 'back up' copy online or a printed one you keep with the child's records once he/she has left your care
That copy may not include photos but is evidence to the inspector on how you have recorded the child's progress.
For instance you may not have a 2 year old in your care when inspected but having a back up copy of a previous Progress Check you can show how you do that assessment at that age.
Don't forget to get permission from the leaving parents' to keep the records safely stored and how you would use them...see ICO guidance on that.

I always keep copy of any 2-yr check and a copy of their tracker to show general development over the time the child was with me.

SOME LAs say that we should keep a copy of the 2 year progress check because it's statutory ... but not all.
One of our IC group members was told that the LJ belongs to her - by Ofsted - but we aren't sure that's right because it contains photos of the children which belong to parents unless we have written permission to keep them ...

Thanks Sarah....strange but not unusual that LAs should differ in opinion even on the keeping of records
Yes it would make sense to keep a copy but I personally do it because I keep a copy of ALL the children's progress...whatever age wile I hand the LJ to the parents...some of the photos and records are kept with signed agreement from parents that I can do so after they leave as per ICO recent advice
We are all different I know!
It is Ofsted I am interested in showing 'my way' of recording progress for children in case I do not have a 2 year old at the time of inspection....
OR
in case (which should never happen)...that a parent has take the LJ to update it and not returned it in time ??
Just out of curiosity ...for those who use Tapestry...as this is an online system does it not save the record automatically??
For the last 20 years I have been in childcare my understanding is that the LJ actually belongs to the parents as it is their child's records...again...opinions may differ on this too but it is our decision
Schools hand records to parents while retaining a copy for themselves.
