    Default RA for Babysitting

    Good afternoon,

Hope you are all enjoying a sunny afternoon!

Just wondering with regard to babysitting, a requirement of our registration with insurance is that we have to complete a risk assessment for any babysitting that we do. Has anyone done this and be able to give a few pointers? Also if there are any templates/examples so that I can get an idea of what to include.

    Many thanks.

Take it you'll be babysitting in their house? You just do a risk assessment in your head like you would if you wasn't a childminder. Unless others think you need to do different?

I would say there are two ways to cover yourself, the first of which is the 'continuous risk assessment' approach Dragonfly describes.

The other is to put some onus on the parents. Devise a simple form which requires them to point out any particular aspects of their house which require your particular attention with regard to safety/hazards. If the parents (mistakenly) consider their home to be perfectly childproof they need to state as much in writing. Either way, they sign the declaration.

This won't give you complete legal protection. But it will prevent parents saying "we told you so" or claiming you overlooked an obvious risk, if the worst comes to the worst.

I looked into this for one set of parents, there are forms/advice on childcare.co.uk and PACEY not sure if you need to be member to access it.
