Overnight care

Hi all, hoping someone can give me some advice. A friend has asked forever night care for her 10 week old baby over a weekend. I'm not currently registered for overnight and have emailed Ofsted to see how to go about it. It's not something I want to do more than once in a blue moon.

Tricky question, I am only charging her for the hours during the day as a favour so wouldn't be getting paid for the nighttime care. Would this enable me to look after little one? I know it's an odd situation but wanted to ask here whilst I am waiting for Ofsted to get back to me. I failed to mention in the email I would only get paid for the daytime hours :-/

Can you go to her house for the overnights? Or if you are at your friends house for the weekend then its babysitting and nothing to do with childminding/Ofsted.

I don't offer overnight care, so I don't know the ins & outs.

No, I need to be home for my 2 kids. I'm hoping Ofsted come back and say it's fine. Baby is so young that he will be in my room or I will sleep downstairs with the travel cot, so I don't disturb everyone, so I don't think sleeping in a room of his own will be a problem. I had my inspection a few weeks ago and they looked round the house so hopefully that will go in my favour.

If you check your Ofsted registration certificate you will see that 'overnight care' has been removed....in the same way the ratio has been removed and it say 6 children under 8...and no 'variations' anymore listed in it!!

If any cm wishes to do overnight care they need to make arrangements and RA, they can contact Ofsted ...the new system is via their online tool but you can email if you wish.

The EYFS is in much need of a tweak...since its first update in 2012 overnight care is mentioned in just one line on page 25 ... but it is the current legislative framework and still very much valid until it gets a well deserved update...hopefully that is not too far away.

I would suggest you actually call Ofsted...record the name of the person who takes your call...and tell them you wish to do overnight care.
I know you have emailed but often the reply can be long in coming!

They will tell you what they expect of you...when I called them their advice was very clear and helpful but I made sure it was recorded in my personal file

mum doesn't need the care now so left it at an email. They've just got back to me and said they've updated their records to show I provide overnight care. Easier than I expected lol x
