For parents? Why is is not for all child care professionals?
This could actually be a good replacement for the 'not official' DM.
Any reason why we can not use it ourselves? I can't think why not... I will print and digest/compare.
I hope this is a glimpse of maybe a more user-friendly format for future Gov EY publications??
I bet this is an easier format for new CMers to digest too.

The booklet has been released in conjunction with the DfE's new funding for LAs announced today for the joined up check for education and health.
I believe it replaces the EYFS for parents we used to have...it appears like a very simple DM for parents

I'm going to do the same Moggy. Print and have a good read through, at a glance it looks good.

I agree, Tink. It is so much clearer to follow when you compare it with the current wording.
Useful reference guide for us - (wonder if it will replace the current version we have any time soon?)

Wow Sarah and Simona. This is great

Lollipop kid.....There has never been a guidance for parents of their child's development...not unless they buy their own books....only the EYFS for parents which was really a hindrance and nothing else....correct me if I am wrong anyone?
This booklet has a well intentioned aim behind it ....I am sure it will help the HLE ....finally the DfE has reacted to evidence and ...wow....we have something that was needed 5 years ago!
so I am very pleased to see it but have 2 reservations
1. all parents should be sent this leaflet or have access to it in hard copy in Children's Centres or at their Health Visitors ' meetings.
I envisage settings printing it out for parents to ease the LJ and assessment process for progress check and beyond.
2. our printing and handing out to parents increases our costs...but I am sure we will think this as an investment?
Those LJs will sure be different from now...I bet!
Finally...I am almost jumping for joy to see Development Matters made easy for parents....long live DM!
Glad to see DfE has come to its senses.... it is the best there is to follow child's development....EYO is not the same...hurray for those who worked hard to preserve DM!!

HLE = Home Learning Environment and links to EYFS
This is the DfE publication on it and stems from the EPPE research of 1994

I will be printing the new booklet for my records but hope parents are given it not left to decide whether to obtain a copy or not...many may not know about the FY website or have a computer.
The Red Book a child has from the HV is a good place to put a copy for every parent....do you agree?

For those interested here is the speech by Sam Gyimah yesterday to NDNA on various new initiatives and extra funding....the DfE's is like a bottomless well apparently...they seem to come up with new funding every day!
