Default Email from Britax RE: car seats

I posted a while ago about removing the 5 point harness on my stage 1,2,3 car seats when a child reaches 18kg- and the fact that I didn't want to!

Anyway lots of people said I should keep the 5 point harness on until it didn't fit anymore, even if the child was over 18kg. I have emailed Britax to check and the answer is NO. The harness is tested to 18kg so once a child reaches this weight it must be removed, and they must be secured using the cars own 3 point seat belt.

The 3 point seat belt can be used from 15kg, but MUST be used from 18kg.

Not the answer I wanted- it means my son doesn't have long left in his harness and I'm really not comfortable with just using the 3 point seat belt- but at least now it's been confirmed.

Hope this information is helpful x

    thanks for the info

my just 3 yr old mindee is in a diagonal belt on his car seat in their car - baby sister is now 1 and in his old 5 point belted seat.

when I first saw it I was a bit taken aback, but he is quite a chunk so parents have probably done the right thing.

I don't drive but keep seats for emergencies when DH might need to drive us, or for friends children
Happy to be back with the Greenies

You can buy belt buddies which keep the diagonal belt at the child's shoulder if that's what you are concerned about.

I am having the same problem with my son. I really don't want him in a high back booster with the seat belt until he is much old. After looking around Britax do a car seat with a 5 point harness that you can use upto 25kgs. It is sold as a special needs car from specialist retailers. Hear is the link

The lady from Britax sent me the link the that website- the car seat looks ideal but unfortunately I can't afford to replace the seat he has. Especially with baby number 2 on the way.

Oooh, I have the car seat linked to (2 way Elite) and can recommend it. My 3.5 year old is still rear-facing in it (much safer).
