    Default Other Minders

What is it with some minders - they have to find the negative in everything...

well i didn't find that training any use
I didn't get anything out of that bit of information

    etc etc

and its all about them them them - we want this/that/the other training/ we can't do it this/that/the other day, I not doing this/that etc

Just been to a network meeting and there is a core group of people who really seem to manage to irritate the crap out of me to the point I just want to scream in their faces.
They are only meeting criteria on paper - they are totally fake its untrue but because they look good on paper they are eligible to be on the network.
They really don't give a stuff, they don't value or believe in what they are doing - they only think being on the network will bring them more work=money.

arrrggghhhh it really hacks me of to the point I don't want to be associated with them.

    Nothing wrong with being enthusiastic

Do you feel as if the speaker always looks at you when they are speaking too?

There are a few childminders who I seem to bump into on every course I go on & they do nothing but moan form the minute they arrive. Either that, or they talk amongst themselves for the whole session...very rude in my opinion.

When I did my last first aid course there was one minder who was very vocal about the fact that she was giving up two of her precious Saturdays to attend the course & how she hoped the instructors were going to be quick, get on with it & let us out early. She then went on to talk all the way through, making "witty" little comments that weren't actually funny at all, then having to tell us all her stories, as everything that anyone said had happened to her (only more dramatically) before. It really spoilt the course for the majority of us who were interested in what was being said.

I think I may have been one of those people on these courses that was always moaning and whinging about giving up my time to do all this training BUT having decided to get my head around EYFS and being more positive in my own abilities to actually be able to deliver EYFS I have found a new lease of life where my childminding is concerned. I now actually enjoy training and meeting new people.

I live and work in a small community where there are only four childminders and we have all been registered for 20 - 25 years so we are very much old school and set in our ways. Two of us decided to bite the bullet and get our heads around EYFS and two decided to be very negative and on the defensive all the time. This has caused a bit of a rift between us all but I know that come inspection time I will be less stressed out and hopefully prepared and more than anything feel more confident and positive with what I am doing.

I have also decided to do DHC Level 3 which I would never have considered I was capable of doing but because I feel more confident I am prepared to give it a go and see what happens.

I would like to add that there are more than likely a lot of childminders out there who are really worried about all the changes that have happened over the last few years but if I can get my head around it anyone can. I left school with some cse's but not very good grades and find it difficult to put pen to paper but with help and support from my local TRIO group I am sure I will be able to give it my best shot.

There is nothing wrong in being enthusiastic (I always get snidey comments like) and there is nothing wrong in taking pride in the job you do (I always get comments about that too).

Bandlady, I admire your determination and all credit to you.

I know we all have 'off' days and even I resent sometimes having to give up a precious Saturday occasionally but I always try to see a positive in training - even if its sometime I already know/do/done. Sometimes all training does for me is affirm my own good practice.

It was just last night - a network meeting where we were given excellent news (we are going for full CCF approval and accreditation) and we have been recognised by the local LA for the work we do - there STILL had to be the moaners and whingers finding the negatives in all of it. These are the same people who talk over everyone else including the leader.

We had a specialised drop in a few weeks ago with CLL professionals attending - these same people wittered on about how they got nothing out of the session. The Leader asked them if they actually approached the professionals and talked to them... eerrr no......even the leader snapped a bit and told them she couldn't hold their hands.

another woman last night wittered on about ECaT and how it's a load of tosh (indicating me as I am Lead on it and I am editing her words) - I asked her what she needed help with and she proceeded to tell me that I was wrong about everything etc etc (there was more to it) and was very negative. I tried to reinforce what it was all about, different strategies etc still to be met with a brick wall. Honestly its the umpteenth time I have explained it all.
I am pretty tolerant of people who genuinely need help and assistance but I have no time or patience for those who want things on a plate, refuse to listen or even try different things, those who can't be arsed or see past the end of their own noses. I just get really annoyed and frustrated and wonder what on earth they are doing in place they obviously don't want to be or see no benefit of. The only reason they joined the original network was before they thought they could get extra money/work with little effort.

I know I can't change the world and I shouldn't let it stress me but YET AGAIN I am associated with these people - ie same network and I don't want that association. I know I am not the only one to feel like that on the network but because they met criteria on paper....... I am seriously considering quitting the network, i want to work with positive people who enjoy their jobs, who believe in what they do and want the best for the children and families.

Our network can be as bad. There are some lovely people on there but there is always a few.

Last meeting they asked why we joined and several people said because we get our ncma memebership and insurance paid

our network co ordinator had a fit and has now started to recruit new people into it.

Lol that is why I choose to work alone and not be part of any networking groups. I find the cliquiness hard enough to bear at toddler groups... guess it helps that I enjoy my own company!!

It astonishes me that these type of people are allowed to be on a network - networks are for driving forward change and quality - how can you do that if people are so negative. The D.O.'s really need to be more selective.

When I first started minding...18 months ago I went along to CM group and they all sat there drinking tea, eating biscuits and moaning about everything, and it put me off completely - I didn't go back!
