    Default Text messaging cowarldy?

    Hiya..

I posted about this on another thread; New parents messing me around?
Well, this lady's baby is supposed to start on Wednesday, she cancelled two weeks ago the day before the previous due-to-start-day, ONLY when I called. I sent her the invoice for uncancelled two weeks gone, but still haven't heard from her.

This is more of a general thing I would like your views on; should we always call to parents, is text messaging OK or cowardly when I just don't want to speak to these akward people? well that's what I just did, I texted her to chase up the payment and also asked her to confirm the new start day as wednesday or if my services are still required at all, to save me the journey on Wednesday as I'm supposed to pick the baby up...

Well. I haven't had a response yet, I will let you know when I do, or if I don't, in which case I am calling her tomorrow to find out what's going on. Do you think that if I don't get hold of her at all it would be reasonable to cancel the contract and try to get someone with more co-operative parents instead? I presonally would already be keen to do that !

Sorry to hear you are being messed around by this parent

I guess it is up to you what you feel comfortable with - regarding the texing

Personally I would rather call because I think it is harder for them to avoid you
    They can avoid a text

I only use text messages with parents about silly things - what the child is doing if they do something funny that day
Or if parent is worried she is going to be late she will text just to warn me - but if def late she will call me

I would call if she does not reply to your text
You really need to know where you stand on Wednesday and tell her that

Good luck hope you get it sorted

I personally would never text a parent, maybe it's my office background (don't know lol) but i always like to talk to a person, at least then you know what will be happening and it is very easy to say "oh i didn't receive a text" when they really are just ignoring you. Good luck and let us know how you get on

I always ring as well - or sometimes if it's money I've been known to pop round! I know it can be really hard, but at least they can't ignore you when you're on the doorstep

Thanks all to your replies !

You are all right, I need to get over this shyness and just ring her. She has not texted back yet, I'm happy to wait today but if I have heard nothing by tomorrow morning I will def. call her ! I am not dragging my children there 8.15 in the morning on Wednesday just to hear she changed her mind.

Anyway, taking my son to pre-school, it's his first day ! He's been to nursery play sessions twice a week before, and he is very social character anyway so I'm not worried, just sad to see them growing up so fast...

    Will keep you updated !

Little Monkey just walked in and waved goodbyes and went off to play ! He's always been a little socialite, wanting to play with other kids at swing parks etc. since he was 16-17months old ! I'm glad he's an easygoing one though. His little brother seems to head the same way.

Ok will let you know tomorrow how it went with THE parent.

Just to add I too don't text parents. I like to talk to them, even when my stomache is churning inside (but then I'm like that with all the phone calls not to frineds )

I do text my parents alot but never over something as important as this.

Just think what is the worst that can happen! That she has changed her mind and doesn't need you!! Well at least you will know for definite and you can then move on and find some more mindees without being left in limbo!!

    Hope you get it sorted

I would have to ring today though, I cannot stand waiting for a call, I prefer just to get it over and done with. Hope this parent is not messing you about, have you signed contracts?

    Hi again !

Well the lady just phoned me back, and from what I gathered from her accent is that she will get the money for me and something about her school and so on, and that yes she will still need me from Wednesday onwards !

Well let's hope it will all go fine in the future, and that she will keep up with payments as she really wants to pay me herself and then get the money back from her school which is paying for the childcare.

Thanks for everybody for kicking my bum ! Won't be using texts anymore in these issues unless I have to.

    Will keep you posted

PS Son really enjoyed pre-school and is looking forward to going back tomorrow ! Shall the sun keep shining on me

    Love:

Happy to see you sorted out your problem. I would agree that if you can it is always best to try and phone so there are less avoidance issues from the parent. The only thing i would say though is i don't think it hurts to send a text or even an email. That way if anything ever gets out of hand and you have to take action against a parent for unpaid fees you have written proof of your attempts to contact them. By all means phone them aswell but if any situation ever got out of hand it never hurts to have multple souces of proof that you tried to contact them. Even if you tell someone you called them the parent could say you didn't and you never spoke, then you have the palava of digging out phone records to prove you were on the phone with them but even then there is no proof of your conversation.

It may seem a lot but i feel it is always best to try and cover all the basis in order to protect your oen back.
