Default Do we need a fire blanket?

Do we still need a fire blanket on our wall?

    I didn't think we did...

I know I could look in the EYFS, but while I am on here I just thought I would ask.

    I don't know!

I've still got one up. It's been there forever. I take it down every now and again to dust it and to check it's all still in one piece, but that's it.

They do collect dust don't they?! That's why I'd love to get rid of mine.

    i don't have one.

the reason being that I have an aga, and fireman said i didn't need one. He also said that they are incredibly difficult to use properly and my time would be better spent getting myself and children out of the house and dialling 999 !!!

They can be used to smother flames if clothing catches fire (roll person in the blanket). I keep mine on the wall. It is just a case of your own risk assessment, there is no rule that says you must have one.

3.55.Providers must take reasonable steps to ensure the safety of children, staff and
others on the premises in the case of fire or any other emergency, and must have
an emergency evacuation procedure. Providers must have appropriate fire
detection and control equipment (for example, fire alarms, smoke detectors, fire
blankets and/or fire extinguishers) which is in working order. Fire exits must be
clearly identifiable, and fire doors must be free of obstruction and easily opened
    from the inside.

I am such a bad Childminder, I read your posts then went and checked I still had my fire blanket on the wall 😂😂😂 I must dust it automatically without thinking about it as it’s still there! Been there years . Did have a fire extinguisher also but that went out of date so now lives in the garage.
