It depends on the age and stages of your children.
Ive used both these ideas previously.

I love the melon idea- thank you.

We make small seed plant pot holders to put our early sown vegetable seeds in, that we put on every windowsill in the house in Feb and March.
Paint them, stack them, stick things on the outside - my windowsills look bright and cheery, some are sent home to nurture and use at home or returned to plant out in our veg patch.

For my pre schoolers we draw a smiley face on the tip of one and we use it when reading for pointing to the words I read.

Puppet holders- stick on the end character pictures from fav books ( copy on printer) use as a prop for story telling, ch retelling.

Make shapes - square, triangle, rectangle, star, hexagon etc... By sticking sticks together - reinforces 'sides' talk - paint, colour, decorate.

Actually make fruit lollies - fill smoothie maker as usual, fruit , milk , yoghurt etc... Put in ice cube tray , when almost frozen, pop in lolly stick, leave to freeze further - delicious - frozen smoothie lolly.

Can't wait to hear more ideas - what have you used yours for so far mumofone?
all ideas, except reading stick, from Pinterest originally - costs nothing to join - like others have said before - it's a natural thing for educators to join, well worth it for ideas.

The melon looks cool on a stick :-)
Sorry I can't work out the first picture, is it to post them in the correct coloured slot?

yes , just a colour sorting / dexterity game.

You can also make 'jigsaws'. I taped about 6 together at the back loosely then stuck on a picture of the child on the front. Use a sharp knife to cut along each join , then take the tape off the back. You have a photo made up of 6 strips for the child to put back in order. Not sure I explained that very well!!

I've made a fairy door with some, I frame small drawing the kids have made with them, we have them in the playdough, in the wooden block box, I'v taped ribbons to them for dancing sticks, we have different faces on them, we have them in the 3 little pig sensory box. I do find though, whenever I actually do find inspiration for them, I can't find them!!

Just give a handful to the kids and see what they do with them.

:-) I can never find mine when I want them either!
I have loads in the heuristic boxes and also for sorting and posting as mine are also different colours.

Chocolate lollies, grease proof paper blob of melted chocolate pop in the lolly stick, decorate with hundreds and thousands, pop in fridge to set.

Yoghurt lollies, grease proof paper, squeeze out a frube, press in lolly stick, decorate if you wish and freeze.

    Can you tell I'm hungry?
