Default Info on childs day for parents at pick up time

I have one Dad of a mindee who always ask what childs done that day (obviously this is fine!) but sometimes the day has been a sea of various school pick ups, meal times and then some free play but yet I always feel I should be saying "X learnt so and so today" but this isnt always the case. Mindee is very happy and settled here, has a good time etc but doesnt necessarily "learn" something each day. I get the impression parent begrudges paying me a bit (!) too but obviously my service doesnt come for free! Does anyone else get this?

If asked I'd say ''X really enjoyed playing with the water or saying hello to everyone at school''

i don't usually get parents asking what we've done, because i tell them something like the above when they come in, and then actually, its usually the parents and i chatting about the day or something else entirely!

If they want to know in depth, then they know it is in the diary for them to read and share at home.

Also, even though it's busy doing school runs, meals etc, especially if you have a baby in your career (that's what I find eats up most of my time!), could you perhaps set out ahead of time little activities like play dough/colouring at the table, Lego, a messy play tray like rice with cups, spoons etc. Then at least if it has been a day where you've only had time for free play, at least it's been a specific activity, even if they do it independently.

No parents didn't request one (it was an option...)

Maybe you could ask these parents for a small review to address this matter.
they have not opted for diaries ....good as they can be very repetitive and an additional burden for cms ...they are not required and very few parents actually communicate in them
You do feedback on progress regularly via your LJ? maybe they feel they want more ...something like a daily planning...even though that too is not compulsory
I recall you are looking into an online system?...talk it over with the parents

Parents are in a way 'entitled' (I say this very very carefully) to a daily feedback ...they buy our services and need feedback if that is what they want...it is part of 'catering for their individual needs'

Some parents ask to know what the child has eaten...but you have a menu on the wall plus maybe you have put this in the diary.
Some ask what you have done when they know your routine very well...but children do things differently and definitely learn every day
Some cms have planning on their wall but parents still ask 'what did you do today'?

It is a very difficult situation as pick up can be fraught and busy and everyone is tired and one parent wanting your attention takes you away from the others...sit down with him and work out an alternative

I had a parent who required detailed feedback of the day...even though my wall had all info there.... food eaten and every ingredient in it...yes that ....but I sorted it in the end.

    God luck!
