Default Nicky Morgan: guidance for EY sector on 'prevent duty'

Not just for 'nurseries' as the article states ... but guidance for the whole EY sector!

Nurseries given guidance on new legal duties to tackle extremism

So now... off to write our procedures

I really do not want to create a new Policy.

I am looking to include it in my Safeguarding Policy, in a way it is adding a new risk to the list (abuse, neglect, radicalization?).

How are others thinking of incorporating it?

This is what I've done. I've just added the prevent strategy to my safeguarding policy!

I am sure that doing that will be fine...Prevent has only become law today so we all need a short time to reflect how we want to adapt our policies, how to word them and how to discuss this with parents.
I would also imagine LAs will probably put on training to support us!

I have been poking my LA since April (and again today) with no support other than the documents we already have and that they'll keep us informed of any future training.

I am anticipating having to re-write the Safeguarding Policy once the new EYFS is out anyway, so I am not going to lose too much sleep over this at the moment! I find it much easier to write a policy when it is based on an EYFS statement, you can copy/paste and then just elaborate on how you will do it.

I would agree with you there....this is a hot topic and I am sure it has to be reflected in the EYFS and also in our CIF handbook when it comes out?
Prevent is part of safeguarding too.
Morgan's statement was just that...not really what I would call a guidance ....although that's how it was referred to, so I expect the DfE will follow it with its own guidelines and LAs will get ready to support....wishful thinking?

Also I would expect all the associations to give us help with this.
The statement about EY came after the schools' one and teachers are raising a few objections

And here is Morgan's 'advice' on the gov.uk ...it is now advice?...look further and it is actually DfE guidance....that was quick!

This is going to take me a while to digest tbh and work out how to incorporate it into my policies. I do hope some form of training is offered.

Doesn't it make you feel like we're in the film '1984'? Spy on thy fellow man. Report to the 'Thought' police?

I have just added it into my safeguarding policy, and put the copy of the guidance along with it in the folder on my computer. I don't think it needs a separate policy, though I have also mentioned it in my Equal Ops policy.

Policies agreement forms part of the contract so any change to a policy is sent to parents, they read, re-sign my policy agreement form and I file that with the contract.
