Separate area into easy shapes to measure and work out the area of each. Add these together to give the total area.

So I measured 3 areas then added before times them eg

    3.00 x 2.00
    2.00 x 1.00
    2.00 x 1.00

    =. 7.00 x 4.00 = 28 metres squared
    Rather than

    3.00 x 2.00 = 6
    2.00 x 1.00 = 2
    2.00 x 1.00 = 2

Which would only make 10 metres squared. Is this right?
    Thanks

If you have three rectangles as mentioned above you would add them together so 10 metres squared

You need to work out the areas of each section first then add the areas together.

So if your main area is 3mx2m that would give you an area of 6m. If the alcoves are each 2mx1m they are 2m each. Your total area is then 10m squared.
