Yes I think so. It was a 6 year old girl - we did some baking, went to the park. She spent lots of time doing arts and crafts (thank god I'd spent months saving toilet roll tubes and toothpaste boxes!) the happyland collection was a godsend, she was big into role play. My LO was pretty good except a crying fit on the way back from the park :-(
I found setting rules and disciplining hard as I didn't want to be seen as the new nasty childminder so bit worried ive set a bad precedent for the future!
She was very picky on the food front and ate way over my budget for the day but again I let it slide for the first day!
She left her manners at home too but I bit my tongue!!
Any tips welcomed, it's tougher than it looks! But yes a million times better than any other job uve ever done! :-)

My one tip would be - don't bite your tongue on the manners front! It's our duty to reinforce (okay, teach in some cases) good manners.
What a lucky little girl - it sounds like she had a wonderful day at your house! My six year old daughter would be thrilled to have baking, arts and craft and the park all in one day. Are you having her for the whole of the holidays?
I'm glad your little one was okay too. x

Totally agree with Maza here - she may be testing the boundaries but you need to be clear what is expected from her.

Same with food - dont let her eat you out of house and home, it is OK to say No especially if she has refused other food.

But it does sound as though she had a lovely day so don't worry about being the "nasty new childminder"!

    Hope tomorrow goes well too

    Miffy xx
    Keep smiling!

Totally agree on the manners front start as you mean to go on.

Not sure what you mean that she ate more than you budgeted for.

Hope your second day is as good as the first

Hello, I am 6wks into being a new childminder. The first two weeks were hard going and nerve racking, But I have got to say that things are going really well.
My confidence is growing day by day and I am actually starting to relax I look after three 18mth olds, a five year old and a nine year old. Defo think I have made the best decision and my only advice would be to keep on smiling and be confident in what you do x

lol think I got thrown into the deep end!! We handed flyers out in out estate n we had loads of people come forward looking for childcare and I found it hard to say no. Thankfully so far things r going ok, and I am surprising myself at how calm I can be!! Early days though I think I did spend a lot of time clock watching but that soon passes x
