Boring ink question

I have recently had a new printer and signed up to a monthly ink plan at £3:49 per month for 100 pages. I've realised I sometimes print more than this so it is going to cost me more. I just wondered how much everyone else spends on ink so I can work out the most cost effective option. I also want to nominate this question for the most boring question of the year lol :-D

I use a couple of sites to buy ink cheaper than the branded ones - they last more than 100 pages so a bit more cost effective

I have used them for years, the service is quick and prices very good especially if you buy in bulk

Hard to say how much it costs to print these days....with the Govt and Ofsted constantly changing regulation and legislation the ink usage has sky rocketed....I think we should all have shares in ink companies !!!

I don't really print much out for childminding - I have an expanding i books app that I store and read all the government info etc...not a big fan of laminating, posters etc...or death by worksheets.

I do however print photos for my photography projects and buy inks from:

Ink Cartridges, Cheap Printer Ink, Printer Toner and Inkjet Cartridges

Good value and we often get free photo paper.

My old IT team advice was to purchase the manufacturers inks every 3/4 times as these have cleaning fluids in too. This advice was given after several what I considered to be fairly new classroom printers just stopped working properly. I did this from then on and the printers continued to work. So I do this on our home one now. Though I wonder that the manufacturers of cheap inks have developed in the last couple of years too.

I used to use refilled cartridges. They were a nightmare. The colours never seemed quite right, or it always looked a bit green. They leaked, leaving gunk in the machine. The printer in the end stopped working as I could never clear the blockages. In my opinion, they were a false economy, as I was always having to change them.

I now always use original HP cartridges. My printer knows when you have a recycled cartridge in plus I think it's invalidates the guarantee.

I use internetink.co.uk.
They have a very fast postage, usually arriving the next day, or the day after. They sell original and recycled cartridges. They are much cheaper than the shops and Costco. They do a deal where 2 plus are then cheaper.
After the first order, they give you a code for a further 10% off all future orders. I can PM you the code if you want it.

I always buy the XL cartridges. My last order was 2 black and white, 2 coloured, and it came to about £75. It hopefully may last until the end of the summer.


TOP TIP No1 - I always write the date when I put the cartridge in the printer with a sharpie. Then I can see how long they last. They often last much longer than I would have thought.

TOP TIP No2 - I recycle my empty cartridges ( they have to be genuine ones - mine are HP) with a company that actually pays me cash. My last few I sent off payed me £2.50 and £3.50 per cartridge. When you get to a credit of £25, they pay it into your bank account. Let me know if you are interested in recycling with this company.
