ok so ive got my first LO starting next week for 2 days a week.

i just need a bit of help with starting points if you could help please.
can i ask how you collect informatio for them and how you record it?
can i just gather information vier obsersations and record it on a tracking sheet or summretive assessment?

I always ask parents to fill in the same tracking sheet and then keep it on file. It is really useful to know a rough idea of where to set activities. It also gives you a guage for how realistic the parents are too.

That way i can choose activities that will hopefully stimulate lo and fulfil their interests too.

Another word for 'starting points' is 'what a child can do'
Put together info from the parents...what does the child do at home and then watch what he does with you

Look at DM and the 3 Prime areas and observe what you see the child doing...over a little time, say 2 weeks
Record that and from there plan your next Steps in learning for areas you want to encourage if they are emerging...or consolidate if expected.

At the end you can also look at the Outcomes and consult those as well although they are a 'tick box' for inspectors

    Good luck
