What travelcot?

Hello. I have a mindee starting pretty much as soon as my reg certificate comes through who is 14months, and he will be here all day (temp contract though). I do already have a travel cot, but it is my DDs and I think I would really like to get a cheap second one for childminding (hers was quite expensive, bought by MIL).

I want to start looking around for one, I just want a cheap basic one. Does anybody know what I should look out for? Or know any good deals?

I did look on ebay, but once you have added postage costs, they didnt really work out any cheaper, and then don't come with any garantee.

The tchibo one has a "crawling hatch" which I thought would be pretty silly as you wouldn't be able to leave the child in a room on their own incase they crawled out??

haha hmm interesting! Does sound silly.

Have any of you tried that bubble-type cot for babies?

The zip for the tchibo one opens from the outside so the LO can't open it themselves from inside.

This won't help you but I have an ancient Mothercare one that has metal tubes that you fit together then slide the cover over it - it's really good though, very comfy and it's longer than your average travelcot these days. I got it for a tenner from a carboot lol

Also have a Hauck one that I am lending from mindee family, which is obviously only ever used for their child.

I have a samsonite bubble and my LO hates it,
I have no idea why she doesn't lilke it, she sleeps fine in her cot at my house, my mums and nursery.....
they are not very sturdy either...

I have 2 Hauck ones both from Tescos Direct. They are usually £29.99 but often have them on offer for £19.99 if you can wait.

ohh I see, that makes sense now! opps, which I had read that earlier. I bought the £29.99 one from Argos in the end. Haen't opened it yet, but I am sure it will be fine.

On this subject - can you buy an extra mattress to fit in a travel cot?

I want to get a travel cot for minding and also occasional use when my baby stays at my mums but I've been looking and the mattresses are so thin and the bases are really hard that I can't help feeling they must be uncomfortable!

Maybe I'm being an overprotective mum but I don't think I'd want to sleep on one - do you find that babies sleep okay on them and does anyone know if you can buy a mattress?
