    Default Songs for older children

    Hi.

I have a child, who is 4 who likes singing. He isn't into the radio, so no pop / rock songs, although he loves the Bare Necessities.

I am trying to think of some songs that are more complex than simple nursery rhymes to teach him.

Unfortunately, all I can think about is :

    All things bright and beautiful
Pack up your troubles in an old kit bag, (but have since discovered the lyrics weren't quite what I thought they were (makes references to cigarettes).

Can you think of any that you may have sung when you were younger, or sung on holiday / camping trips.

    Many thanks in advance

My Bonnie lies over the ocean
Quarter masters stores (fun as it's the child's name)
She'll be coming round the mountain.
    Que sera sera

I have a set of childrens party CD's got from good old Woolworths many years ago!

    Selection of songs from it
I wanna be like you - from jungle book
    going to the zoo
2 little boys (old rolf harris classic)
    The ugly duckling
How much is that doggy in the window
    runaway train
He's got the whole world in his hands
    Nellie the elephant
    Puff the magic dragon
    Jake the peg (rolf again)
    Summer holiday
    I can sing a rainbow
    Teddy bears picnic
if your happy and you know it
    London bridge is falling down
    Kum by yah my lord
    Who built the arc
Tie me kangaroo down sport (rolf again)
    Windmill in old amsterdam
etc etc - this is just selection from 2 CD's -lots of them are songs I used to hear on "Junior choice" with Tony Blackburn when I was a kid - before CD's were invented!!

The kids love them all, we have them on quietly in the background at lunch time or when painting and then louder when have out instruments for singing and dancing.
