    Default how long to keep records from children who left setting

    Hi to all,

    do I have to keep records (child record form, contract, Accident, incident, medication a.s.o.) from children who left my setting and if yes for how long?

    Yup, till the child reaches the age of 21 yrs and 6mths

    It's something to do with the age of consent in bringing allegations against you without parental consent - something like that anyway (although it made sense at the time it was mentioned, I don't see how it actually does now)

    When the child reaches 18 they have three years to raise an accident claim against you in their own right. So You need to keep the contract and any accident/incident records until the child is 21 years and 6 months.

    I must confess as I have a soft backed folder in which I put all the contract, information and consent forms I just add their accident and attendance record and put it in a box and each year this goes in the loft with my accounts for the year. I also put a photo of the child with the records.

    Guess I'll pick up what you do and creat a "leaver" folder or file box. Sounds good to
