I had a lo who when she started was only 7 months old and so taking up my only under 1 space, so I charged half in the summer holidays as dad was a lecturer and they didn't need me during the summer (but wanted to keep the space available just in case he should need to go in at any time).

Suppose it depends if they want the space kept available for them or not!

I have just started to charge half fees for holidays .. i have found that parents will leave the child with me 1 day to cover the cost for keeping the place.

did you discuss retainer fee's for school holidays when you did a contract with the parents ? if you did and its in their contract that you charge a 50% retainer fee then yes you can, if you didnt you cant really spring it on them, if this is the case you could put into writting giving 30 days notice that if they do not need school holiday care in the future a retainer fee of £.... will be payable during this time to secure their place for the coming term as you are open during school holidays hth x

if you are open all year round you are perfectly within your rights to charge eithe rfull or a retainer.

I don't but that's because I prefer to be quieter in the holidays.
if you do what you've always done, you'll get what you've always got
